2018 Floral Wedding Trends

Updated: Jul 19, 2018

As a wedding florist, I always look to interiors and fashion trends to see where I think wedding florals will be going for the year ahead. However, it’s also very important to note that it’s not the ‘be all’ to follow a trend or make sure it’s incorporated into your wedding day. Take inspiration from trends and adapt them to suit your theme and personalities. Experiment and play around with trends, push the floral boundaries and get utterly creative with your wedding flowers.

With that in mind, today I’m talking all about the trends and ideas that we think you can expect to see in 2018. From bouquets to décor, colour schemes to styling, we’ve got it covered…

Hanging floral installations are set to stay in the spotlight for 2018 and we are still smitten with this seriously stylish wedding trend. You can raise centrepieces above your wedding tables – not only will this look incredible, it will create more space for your table styling. We suggest experimenting with different heights for a wedding theme with a luxurious, modern edge.

Think about how you’re going to style your flowers – will you use metallic terrariums, glass vases or dramatic vessels? The way you display your flowers will have a huge impact on your overall venue décor, whether you’re planning a vintage-inspired affair or an ultra-glam celebration.

With a nod towards the fashion industry, it seems that black is going to be a strong colour for 2018 and I am already seeing this filter through to wedding flowers, with pops of dark purple and deep burgundy against a blush colour palette for a bridal feel. I adore working with this colour palette and it can transform an arrangement, making it look stylish and elegant. It is the perfect palette for those statement hanging installations too!

Inspired by traditional floral archways with an up-to-date twist, bride and grooms are opting for circular archways for their wedding ceremony. This modern alternative allows you to get really creative with your floral design and it will make a truly special and stylish setting for you to say ‘I do’. What could be more romantic than a rounded archway adorned with the most beautiful blooms?

While we still love using an abundance of wild greenery and leafy foliage, it seems that couples will be swapping pretty pastel palettes for bolder colours and bigger arrangements – an easy way to make a statement with your wedding flowers! We’re talking vibrant orange teamed with handfuls of foliage – an effortless way to add a splash of sunshine to your wedding day, no matter what the weather! Don’t be afraid to experiment with a mixture of colours and textures – bright, unmissable blooms look striking teamed with colours such as teal, mustard yellow and even metallic hues.

If you want a wedding theme that’s earthy and organic with a bohemian vibe, you’ll adore the trend for dried botanicals, including lots of feathered pampas grass. This is the perfect way to add texture and interest to your floral styling and it’s a great fit for a Summer celebration.
